and a maxi-dress. Welcome to kindergarten in 2013.
I spent a solid fifteen minutes this morning looking at FB and Instagram photos of adorable children on their first day of school. A lot of times the parent captions the photo with something along the lines of, “How is this even possible?!” or “My kindergartener is handling this better than me.” Starting school is a huge milestone and lifestyle adjustment.
I wonder what’s changed and what hasn’t since my kindergarten days in the ‘80s. Kindergarten is now a full day instead of a half day. Families have to provide stuff like hand sanitizer and copy paper. A solid half of the parents at drop off were dads.
But some things were surprisingly familiar. There were still those awesome, brand new 64 packs of Crayola crayons. All the kids lined up against the wall outside the classroom and excitedly waited to file in. Everything was labeled.
When M asked me what kindergarten would be like I told her I wasn’t really sure but I knew it would be an adventure. When pressed on what, exactly, was meant by adventure I said that adventures were new and exciting with some good parts and a few not so good parts but mostly they were important because having adventures is how you grow.
I really hope I wasn’t lying.
Any which way you slice it, though, we’re about to find out. So ::: raises coffee mug :::
here’s to adventures!
Now… to find some new escapades for myself…
