Don’t click away. I know I might as well have just written, “I will now extoll the virtues of my smug lunch.”
But you didn’t come here for nothing! Here: Did you know last summer I wrote a gripping two part series about sea turtles? It’s true.
Part 1: We’ve got the “generally opt not to fuck with sea turtles even though we totally could” thing going for us. Which is nice.
There are pictures of actual sea turtles and everything. You should totally check it out. Go ahead. I’ll wait.
See? This post has some non-navel gazing merit.
Anyhow, on to the navel gazing… I’m doing this blog improvement exercise called “31 days to build a better blog” over at yeah write. By “doing” I mean “participating in sporadically and completely out of order.” One of the key themes woven through the exercise is consistency. Have an editorial calendar. Have a posting schedule. Respond to comments and emails. Take blogging seriously in the same way you might take planning a vacation seriously because if you’re flaky about it you’re going to end up with no hotel room and a maxed out credit card. Have some method to your madness.
So in the spirit of better blogging I’m going to commit to the following things:
1. Posting 5 times a week. I often get hung up on wanting to post something that’s just right only nothing’s just right so I don’t post anything at all. (I’ve elaborated here.) I’ve got to get over that. My goal is to post every week day but if life happens I’ll cut myself some slack and get caught up on the weekends.
2. Making and responding to comments / emails / tweets / smoke signals. No one can see me smiling and nodding shyly over the internet so even though I love getting comments, read a bunch of other blogs, and really want to be friendly, it’s not apparent. I might as well be some kind e-misanthropist derisively tenting my fingers in my e-fortress of solitude because no one can tell the difference.
All right. Thus concludes my blog post about blogging. Good. Times. Especially the part about sea turtles.
What do you think would make this blog better? What are your tips for building a better blog?
