|Retro Edward Cullen.|
During my lazy Thanksgiving weekend I finished “A Discovery of Witches” and heard all about “Breaking Dawn 2” from a Twi-Hard who is so awesome in other ways I’m willing to over look her pocket-Edward.
This has inspired me to put down the bones for a possible popular vampire novel:
Brody McAngsterton is attractive, mysterious, and staggeringly wealthy. He expresses romantic interest by turning up in young women’s bedrooms uninvited to stare at them while they sleep and restricting their freedom of movement and access to friends and family. But that’s not creepy at all because he’s not a stalker, he’s a 1000+ year old vampire with a taste for females at least 975 years his junior. He’s just protective. In addition to yearning, brooding, keeping secrets unnecessarily, inspiring swooning, and lacking communication skills, being protective is just what vampires do.
Katerina Everygirl is attractive, well liked, and has some kind of supernatural power too only she doesn’t seem to fully grasp any of this despite the fact that the reader is often instructed that she is smart and capable. Instead of honing her supernatural powers and resourcefulness to either extricate herself from or entirely avoid situations where she is threatened by vampires Katerina prefers to panic and faint. Her pulse quickens and she blushes a lot.
Here is where NaBloPoMo gets brutal. I’m not going to have time to finish this before midnight tonight but I think this could be a fun post to write and read so I’m going to put a pin in this and come back to it sometime tomorrow. Please enjoy this half formed idea for what it’s worth and feel free to leave feed back in the comments. After I get some sleep I will figure out what perilous scenarios Brody and Katerina will face while they gaze at each other longingly during the two and half weeks it takes them to determine that it’s true love forever.
